100+ Women Who Care of Manitowoc County launches giving campaign
100+ Women Who Care of Manitowoc County said it has launched its “For the Love” online giving campaign to help support various non-profit organizations in the county.
100+ Women Who Care is a group of women who share a common desire to give back and inspire local philanthropy in their community. The Manitowoc Chapter was founded in September 2020 by Paula Fox, Julie Wells-Ribley and Sue Bown after Bown attended a 100 Women Who Care meeting in Michigan.
“I saw firsthand the impact one organized hour of philanthropic giving can make and was inspired to share that gift with Manitowoc County,” Bown said.
“2020 opened our eyes to the huge gap in meeting the needs of our community,' Bown added. 'Domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, hunger, youth and adult depression are all on the rise. The local arts, mental health organizations and interested groups for both children and adults are all in need. Bringing this group to Manitowoc can help change that trajectory.”
The group meets four times a year with a goal “to have 100+ women join the group, and for each member to donate $100 or more at each quarterly meeting,” Bown said. This philanthropic platform makes it possible for the group to donate at least $10,000 in one evening, and $40,000 or more in a year, to the charity with the most member votes. The group currently has 138 contributing members.
In lieu of a previously planned in-person quarterly meeting, the 100+ Women Who Care of Manitowoc County launched the 'For the Love' online Valentine’s giving campaign on Feb. 1, and in six months 'has approved 11 worthy non-profit organizations and another six are in the approval process,” according to Donna Firman, member of the group's non-profit approval committee.
